As per macrumors.com iPhone 8 is said to have the diameter of the 4.7 inch iPhone but with a 5.8 inch OLED display. This is possible only by covering the complete surface of the phone with the display without leaving any space for a hardware Home button.

The iPhone will have a ‘function area’ on the lower part of the display where there was a home button on previous iPhone models.

The iPhone is also expected to adapt other biometric technologies such as iris or facial recognition in addition to the fingerprint reader (or replacing it).
